Carnival Jubilee was named in the port of Galveston, Texas on 24 February by singer Gwen Stefani. This was the first time that a major cruise ship has been named in the port. Carnival Jubilee is the third member of the Excel class to join the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, bringing the line’s fleet up to a total of 26 vessels.
Just a few days earlier an order was placed with Meyer Werft at Papenburg for a fourth ship for Carnival, bringing the class to ten ships spread around four brands, something of a record.
These 183,521gt ships are the largest in the fleet, although there have been reports that the company might be looking for larger ships in the next round of orders. With the forthcoming transfer of Costa Firenze to the Carnival fleet, at 28 ships it will be the largest that it has ever been, despite the scrapping of six ships during the pandemic.
