CHECK out the old photo. OK, it’s very poor quality, but it’s clear enough to capture a long-gone era in transport. It was taken in the village of
Doddington, Kent, way back when. The building was last used as a foam factory, but it began life as a store for furniture, earthenware and household utensils. It later became Fred Elvey’s haulage firm until being taken over by British Road Services. I found all of this exceptionally
fascinating because I know the village well and was delighted to learn something of its history, especially because it has a connection with trucks. So, there are three things, here. The first is, does this picture bring back memories? The second is that there must be hundreds of old photos in lofts, boxes, stored in cupboards or wherever else people keep
such treasures, relating to places all over Britain, so please dig them out and get in touch. We love them.
