Cake Decoration & Sugarcraft Magazine  |  February 2012
For February I traditionally think of weddings and romance, so tend to pull together my monthly theme around this. Not only is this the month of Valentines Day; I wed way back in February 1981. It was a rushed job with one week’s notice (no not for that reason) - my future husband was being promoted with his job and we had to move away within a month. It even snowed just for us on our special day.
We didn’t have a wedding cake until later in the summer when we had a blessing for the wider family to attend, and it was royal iced, and made by me, my first wedding cake ever. Looking back I did not make a bad job of it, though I do recall the icing being a bit hard as I had not heard of glycerine at the time. Little did I know, but that was the start of a long road which finally pinnacled in me taking on my current role.
Amongst the many romantic ideas you might spot a new face, as this month Kathryn Kelly joins our team with a simple and elegant wedding cake. We have cakes and flowers that cover all 5 difficulty ratings, and some delightful animal and character modelling so you should find something geared/tailored to your skills and certainly ideas to take and make into your own cake designs.
