Australian Railway History  |  July 2016
An essay by Chris Sim on the history of Rockdale Railway Station in Sydney focusing on its rarely used Platform 1, heads this issue. Chris traces the boom and decline of goods traffic there as well as the role of Platform 1 and its eventual closure.
Part 1 of the history of railway parcels and small consignments traffic on the New South Wales Railways by Ken Williams covers the government railway era between 1855 and 1972. It covers the small consignments carried by the railways, the tasks of parcels offices throughout the state and the railway parcels stamps that were used by the railways, including a selection from other government and private railway systems.
Part 2 of John King’s story of his railway NSW career concludes the issue.
