Australian Railway History  |  July 2014
The July issue of Australian Railway History returns to a traditional subject: the servicing, overhauling, testing and operation of steam locomotives. Part 2 of Philip Dunn’s presentation on the development of the N Class locomotives of the Victorian Railways covers their testing under various conditions and the results obtained.
We also present the first of Keith Robinson’s articles on his experience as a fitter at the huge steam locomotive depot at Enfield in Sydney. It is the personal story of the day-to-day workings of a major steam locomotive servicing and overhaul facility, told from the perspective of the men who worked there. Greg Blackwell rounds the issue off with a short item on the remaining railway infrastructure at Boorowa in New South Wales.
