The Air League, a UK-based aviation and aerospace charity, has announced the launch of its 2024 flying and gliding scholarships. Submissions for the grants, which offer young people with little to no aviation experience an opportunity to develop the required experience to pursue careers in the aviation industry, will close on April 7. Founded in 1909, The Air League has provided scholarships and bursaries worth more than £2m to young people across the UK over the past decade. The charity is looking for individuals with a passion for aviation and aerospace with the determination to learn, grow and succeed.
There are new opportunities introduced as part of the scholarships each year, with 2024 providing specialised educational and training courses for aspiring pilots, engineers and anyone else seeking a career in the aviation industry.
In 2023, the Air League awarded a total of 93 Flying and Gliding scholarships. Data from last year’s cohort of scholars shows that 31% were female – a figure higher than the industry average of 6.5% for pilots. Almost half (49%) of scholars were under the age of 18, while 47% were between the ages of 18 and 25.
