The Hornsea Gazette, May 2, 2024.

This week: the volunteers working tirelessly to expand a Hornsea community orchard are urging people to come and enjoy the space - as well as pick the fruit.

Plus: a village pub whose revival mirrors that of the local rugby club is set to celebrate with a weekend-long beer festival packed with ales and entertainment; a local woman pledges to swim 6km this month to raise money to help in the fight against motor neurone disease; and a society dedicated to Hornsea Pottery hands a welcome funding boost to the town's lifeboat.

The prestigious East Riding Artists stage an exhibition at a local church, while guests at the Probus Club's annual Presidents' Dinner enjoy entertainment from the Green Ginger Garland Dancers as well as a glimpse behind the scenes at the venue, Hull's Beverley Road Masonic Hall.

Rev Ian Greenfield impresses the audience at Withernsea Methodist Church with tales of his epic charity walk across the length and breadth of Britain; young entrepreneurs at Withernsea High School celebrate reaching the final of a national competition; and up the coast in Bridlington, two great events are set to draw crowds to the resort later this month.

Sport includes reports and interviews from Hull KR and Hull FC, plus Holderness Vikings, AFC Preston Ladies and Girls, Withernsea AFC, Easington United, Burstwick Golf, Patrington Cricket Club, Will Young of the To Hull and Back podcast on an incredible night under the lights at the MKM Stadium, and Mark Williamson of the Hornsea Harriers embarks on a 200-mile charity challenge.
