Living Blues  |  Living Blues #285
Living Blues #285 features New Orleans bluesman Ernie Vincent on the cover. Guitarist Ernie Vincent has been at it for over 60 years. His biggest recording, Dap Walk, was released in 1972 but he has never slowed down. His 2023 release, Original Dap King, is introducing him to a whole new audience. Singer and guitarist Gina Coleman fronts the Massachusetts-based band Misty Blues. Her tenaciousness and showmanship have led the seven-piece band to an ever-widening audience. Ike and Val Woods, the King and Queen of the Miami blues scene, have shined bright in South Florida for over 30 years. Starting out in what was left of the old school chitlin’ circuit clubs, the pair is now expanding their reach around the country and overseas. Twenty-five-year-old Kevin Gullage is the son of noted New Orleans bass player Tony Gullage. Brought up under the wings of his dad and piano player Henry Butler, the young keyboardist now fronts the hot Crescent City band Kevin and the Blues Groovers. This issue’s Let It Roll focusses on The Allman Brothers Band’s March 12–13, 1971 live recording for Capricorn Records at New York City’ Filmore East.
All of this plus the latest in Blues News, the 2023 Living Blues Awards Winners, plus over 40 record reviews.
