ALL ABOUT BASSLINES
Finding a keyboard player in a Punk band is rare. Equally, most orchestral
music won’t feature electric guitars. And you’ll have to look quite hard to find a laptop artist in a Folk band. Yet, irrespective of genre, you’ll almost always find a musical layer which could be categorised as ‘bass’. Pitched, low frequency content, which underpins the chords of a track, is a ‘must’ in most pieces of music. Through the following pages, we’re going to discuss what bass actually means when we translate our understanding of notes into discussion about ‘frequency’. We’re also going to address how you can focus the mix of bass when more than one instrument is adding to the low register, as is frequently the case when bass and kick drums work in tandem. In short, we’re going to explore as many aspects of bass programming, production and mixing as we can squeeze into these pages.
