Since lockdown, there has been a huge growth in the number of people getting into camping, the outdoors and enjoying an off-grid lifestyle. More and more, as a society we want to get away. Away from the relentlessness of a working life that has increasingly invaded our homes; away from the tyranny of always-on electronics and ever-watchful social media; away from the pressure to be busy, to be productive, to be available.

When your every waking hour is spent feeling hunted, just disappearing into the countryside for the weekend is a blessed relief. And if you’re in a 4x4, you can disappear further away and deeper into it. Overlander 4x4 reflects Britain’s new-found interest in an outdoor lifestyle.

We’re not a magazine about camping, but a magazine about the sort of adventures that involve it. Primarily, we focus on overlanding – showcasing both trip-of-a-lifetime expeditions as well as adventures that are more modest and, for most of us, more attainable. As always with anything four-wheel drive, it’s going to be a journey worth making, so join us for the adventure.

Overlander 4X4

July 2024 We welcome a host of special editions, one offs and fresh-off-the-press news this month in Overlander 4x4 thanks to exciting updates from across the off-roading scene. Want a taste of what the July issue has to offer? Say less… Isuzu have launched the Mudmaster. It’s their response to working with us on the GO2 and liking what they saw. Based on the current V-Cross range-topper, it features a snorkel, LED grille, lifted suspension, custom rock sliders… the list goes on and on, so head to page 4 for the full run down. Some stiff competition for out GO2 here we feel. Ineos have released the Grenadier 1924 to mark Belstaff’s 100-year anniversary. Ineos bought the clothing company back in 2017 and have created the 1924 to celebrate this long-lived British brand by naming it after its establishing year and lacing it with some seriously sleek stuff! Lexus might not be the brand you’d choose for an off-road expedition, but for daily duties they are hard to beat in the consistent excellence stakes. They were the first to bring hybrid power to the SUV arena and offer a range of genuinely impressive vehicles. We try out their new UX300e, a small but sharp entry-level model that gives us a realistic look at what SUV’s have become for the average driver. Slingshot acceleration being a part of that apparently… With ‘look-at-me’ Land Rovers now 10-a-penny, Paul Wilde just wanted a 110 that he could live in while he was travelling the world. In doing so though, he created something that people REALLY want to look at. His 2.4 litre Puma 110 with its electric green exterior and innumerable customisations feature from page 28. A Namibian adventure, a wander across wonderful Wales and a rally in the Sahara later you will still not be near the end of what the July issue has between its pages!
