Bass Player UK  |  87 February 2013
This month, we present four bassists this month who have made a massive impact as session musicians, laying down the bass with world-renowned stars and standing out from the crowd for their incredible stage presence and chops. Up first is the ineffably funky Yolanda Charles, who has played the world’s biggest stadiums over her career and continues to deliver with as much passion and expertise as ever before. Then there’s Mo Foster and Chuck Rainey, session legends who have played on thousands of recordings between them and whose knowledge and advice on the subject of life as a session muso is invaluable. We also doff the hat to Bryan Beller, a relative young ’un whose own band operates in parallel to his other projects, notable among which is the cartoon metal band Dethklok. And that’s before we even get to the reviews columns, which – as always – cover a wide spectrum of gear, from the affordable to the eye-wateringly expensive, and our tuition pages, where you’ll find gems of advice for you whether you’ve just bought your first bass or you’ve got 50 years of gigging behind you.
