OutThere Magazine OUT THERE - STYLE SS2014 Special Issue

Like two dueling world-class jazz musicians, Art and Fashion have long been bouncing of one another’s riffs, often creating explosive and lauded results. They draw on the same influences and in many ways play to the same audience. They share a common interest in the past and are always at the forefront of what is new and interesting. They are one another’s muse, follow each other around the world and are, without fail, at all the best parties.

Creating this, our Art-themed issue has been, as always, a real labour of love. We have spent months researching and refining ideas. We wandered wideeyed through galleries filled with wonderful paintings, and drank red wine in cafés well into the night discussing the finer points of Chiaroscuro lighting techniques. We earnestly studied the deceptively complex simplicity of the early modernists and fought over which of our favourite artists we wanted to pay homage to.

The result is an eclectic collection of editorials spanning the art world from Hockney’s LA period to Bacon’s 1960s London and way back to Caravaggio’s 17th century Italy via Derek Jarman. Style wise, we have painted from a wide palette, drawing from collections of new designers and past masters alike. We took an art history lesson with the American torch-bearers of a forgotten illustrator, Joe Leyendecker. We spent time with the creative men (and woman) of Savile Row and talked about collecting and making, and applied a gloss finish to our grooming regime with the latest pomades.

What you will see in this issue is just the tip of iceberg, so visit www.outtheremagazine.com/style for more interesting stories and voices in men’s style across the globe.

We hope you enjoy our little masterpiece.

OutThere is a multi-award-winning luxury travel and experiential travel journal for what is a large, global audience of travellers who identify with our core values of diversity, discovery and discernment. We aim to be the leading voice of inclusivity in luxury and experiential travel, telling stories with an intersectional and inclusive lens, from the perspective of passionate and diverse storytellers (Experientialist®s) who represent the travellers who seek a heightened level of personalisation and belonging when they head out into the world: simply because of who they are, how they identify, who they’re travelling with and who they love. We also share the stories and vision of minorities in the travel space, who are creating unique adventures that celebrate and bring to life the history and richness of the communities that they are part of.

We celebrate the many fascinating expressions of global travel, from amazing destinations to luxurious hotels and resorts to unique, one-of-a-kind experiences. Moreover, we look at journeys that extend beyond the act of travelling itself – featuring Arts, fashion, design, style and the people behind them – interspersed with strong personal stories, great photography, industry voices, inside tracks and in-depth features – that will inspire your next journey.
