The days are getting longer and warmer at last so there’s no better excuse for getting out in the beautiful British countryside. In
this issue we take a look at our native
otters who are back from the brink
of extinction and enjoying a growth
in numbers thanks to their protected status. Find out how you can help them and where to see them in your area on page 96. We also discover the bounty of wildlife that makes its home in and around our blossoming orchard meadows at this time of year (p.80), while on page 108 we meet the cuckoos that herald in the spring. If you’re planning a ramble through one of our gorgeous woodlands in the next few weeks, check out our feature on leaf identification on page 92 to help you get the most out of your walk. And don’t forget to read this month’s regional focus feature about North Norfolk (p.114), it’s a part of East Anglia that’s not to be missed. If you’re looking for things to keep your children or grandchildren busy over the Easter holidays, then we’ve got plenty to occupy them. There are easy-to-build bug hotels on page 94, fun-to-make candles tocreate on page 77, while on page 74 there are some beautiful ideas for making Fabergé-style eggs to give as gifts or to decorate your home. Aside from the school holidays, Easter is also a time when many of us get together with family and friends to enjoy a celebratory meal. On page 48 we’ve got some delicious recipes and table decoration ideas to make your Easter lunch extra special, while on page 42 we’ve got some inspiring ideas for cooking British poultry. I hope you enjoy reading our spring issue and that it inspires you to head out into the countryside over the coming weeks. And last but not least, I hope you have a very happy Easter!
