Cage & Aviary Birds Magazine No.5773 A Lizard Canary Legend Back Issue

Only £1.99
There's a hectic but enjoyable week in prospect, with the 2013 National Exhibition at Stafford coming up on Sunday. We’ll see you there, I hope: you can find us next to the Parrot Society stand in Bingley Hall. My colleagues Georgina, the two Lauras and Simon will be there, as well as me, and we hope to meet as many friends, old and new, as we can on the day. So do stop by for a natter. If you’ve not made your plans for October 13 yet, how about it? Entry wrist-bands on the day cost £8 per person, and when you consider that parking at the Stafford Showground is free, that’s pretty fantastic value for money. The halls open to the public at 9.30am, though you’re advised to arrive early. The morning will be busy but brilliant; after lunch we can all draw breath and socialise in
a bit more leisure. For full details, see the Parrot Society’s website: www.theparrotsocietyuk.org.
■ Two long-time contributors to Cage & Aviary Birds will have copies of their latest books available on Sunday. David Allen’s new edition of his Lizard Canary Book will be on special offer for just £6, for the day only. Catch up with Dave at the lizard canary section of the show. And, over in Bingley Hall, British bird legend Bernard Howlett will be assisting at the Priors Pets stand. Bernard’s book The Blackbird Man is reviewed on page 17. ■ Talking of David Allen and lizard canaries: don’t miss
Dave’s profile on page 16 of Stan Bolton, the man with the Midas touch... or should that be the blue touch, given his recent and immediate success with this colour? ■ Ed’s Quote of the Week: “Every time I hear this bird sing, I just smile. I can’t stop myself.” John Courteney-Smith is talking about his grey singing finch (see page 14). John, I know exactly what you mean – it’s the sound of pure joy.
Have a great week with your birds.

Cage & Aviary Birds is the world’s only weekly newspaper for birdkeepers. Written by bird experts for bird fans, it is packed with news, advice and comment from the avicultural scene. An essential resource for members of bird clubs and societies, it also offers an unrivalled marketplace for sellers and buyers of birds and all bird-related products, both in the British Isles and around the world.
As a weekly, it’s a uniquely comprehensive and topical source of news on all subjects that affect the birdkeeper: from legal changes and government consultations, through zoo and bird-park events, scientific research and business news, to the achievements of personalities in the hobby, as well as clubs and their members.
While it’s first and foremost a newspaper, each issue also offers a wealth of practical advice and tips from the top names in the bird world, plus opinion, controversy, species and hobbyist profiles, humour and nostalgia. Bargain-hunters eagerly await their copy to scan its paid and free adverts, and it is quite simply The Bible for show reports, club news and events.
Since 1902, Cage & Aviary Birds has consistently been the first-choice publication for keen birdkeepers, whether experienced or new to the hobby.
