Summer is in full swing and it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the great British countryside. In this issue we’ve got some brilliant ideas for days out that all the family can enjoy, from the pungent delights of the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival (p.96) to RSPB President and BBC Coast presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff’s tips for shark watching around our coastal waters (p.74), as well as our round up of the most exciting rural events around the country in our Out and About section(p.56). The LandLove team will be at the CLA Game Fair in Leeds from 31st July - 2nd August, so do come along and see us. And, if you are planning some days out in the country or by the sea, make sure you take your camera so you can enter your photos into our fantastic photography competition, we’ve got some amazing prizes for you to win. Find out how to enter on page 66. If you’re heading to the South West over the summer, then make sure you read our regional focus feature (p.114) where we discover the delights of Dartmoor. You’ll be amazed how much there is to see and do. We know many of you will be taking a packed lunch on your days out, so we’ve included some delicious recipe ideas on page 40 to make your picnic extra special. If, like me, you have a glut of tomatoes at the moment then turn to page 36, where you’ll find some brilliant recipes for using up your excess – I particularly love the tomato and ricotta tart, it not only tastes yummy but it looks really impressive too! Hot summer days can leave you longing for a cooling swim, so on page 106 we meet the famous swimming ladies of London’s Hampstead ponds who share their top tips for wild swimming with us, along with one of their favourite walking routes with a dip along the way. However you plan to spend your days out this summer, I hope the sun shines for you!
